Research in the Upper School

This year, 9th grade History has shifted to a thematic focus, spending a large amount of time looking at Trade. With this change, visiting scholar Laura Brady and I also added a few new artworks to the mix of options--ones we believed had exciting connections between Renaissance discovery and the Islamic world that came before. New works in the repertoire included:

The Adoration of the Magi Triptych, Hieronymous Bosch, 1494

The Sultan Mehmet II, Gentile Bellini, 1480

Andrea Odoni, Lorenzo Lotto, 1527

It has been exciting watching students and teachers explore these new works. It has also been fun helping students make connections between these innovations in art and the explorations that came before.

While the 9th graders are finishing up their Renaissance Art research, I tried my hand at Adobe Spark to create a page highlighting their hard work. This 9th grade research project is the first formal research process for Upper School students. Students are assessed on a presentation and paper about one artwork from the Renaissance.
