The Rooster Games 2018

On Feb. 15, 2018, Wheeler/Hamilton 5th graders, along with 5th graders from Lincoln School, participated in the 16th annual Rooster Games.   We started the Rooster Games here at Wheeler/Hamilton to create more interest and excitement in the Rhode Island Children's Book Award List (RICBA)  and to encourage 5th graders to read books they might not have picked up on their own.

The kids spent the fall reading at least 10 books from the list of 20.  They shared their opinions and ideas about them with the 5th Graders from Lincoln School on our Rooster Games blog.

On Feb. 15, the kids spent the morning playing a variety of games based on the books.  They matched objects to books, titles to authors, titles to first lines, and completed 40 multiple choice questions.  Each team also created a poster based on one of the books and a team cheer.  You would not believe the amount of enthusiasm and excitement that filled the air as these kids ran from activity to activity.  Thanks to the 5th grade teachers, volunteers, and Lincoln School for making it such a great day!
