Rooster Games 2020 video created by Meryl Willett
On Thursday, Feb. 20 2020, Wheeler and Hamilton, along with Lincoln School's 5th graders, participated in our 18th Annual Rooster Games. The kids read at least 10 books from the Rhode Island Children's Book Award Nominees List, a state-wide list chosen by librarians around Rhode Island. Our students tracked their reading ahead of time, blogged with Lincoln School to discuss their favorite books and came up with team strategies for the event. On the day of the Rooster Games the kids played a variety of games based on the 20 books. They matched title and author, title and first line, and matched an object to each book. They created a cheer in just 20 minutes and illustrated a poster based on a book of their choosing. They also answered 40 multiple choice questions in 10 minutes. When asked what her favorite part of the day was, one 5th grader exclaimed, "All of it! I was so much fun, I can't pick just one thing!"
