History Revised and Retold - expanding the narrative through curation

This year, our entire department has joined a cohort of school librarians across Rhode Island to take part in a program out of UNC Chapel Hill called Project Ready: Reimaging Equity & Access for Diverse Youth.  We are early in our Foundation learning stage, and tonight we have our second cohort meeting. 


Tonight we will explore, reflect and discuss History of Race and Racism -- what we have been taught, what we know, and what other aspects of our past may have been left out of the narrative. While this module is geared for librarians, there are useful resources within for all. 

Near the end of the lesson, two great questions are asked, "Why didn't I learn about this in school" and "What are some small steps we can take to start changing this narrative?" 

One small step the library has taken is with our collection. During the last three years, we have added over 30 titles to the Middle & Upper School collections that tell of history through the lens of often marginalized voices. Titles include
